The universe's origin, as described by the Big Bang Theory, begins with a singularity—an infinitesimally small, infinitely dense point where spacetime collapses and the laws of physics break down. At time zero, quantum gravity dominated, and all fundamental forces were unified in a single superforce. By 10^-43 seconds (the Planck Epoch), gravity separated from the other forces, followed by the strong nuclear force breaking off during the Grand Unification Epoch (10^-43 to 10^-35 seconds). This triggered cosmic inflation, an exponential expansion that smoothed the universe and magnified quantum fluctuations into the seeds of galaxies. As the universe cooled, forces further decoupled, allowing quarks to form protons and neutrons, which later combined into atoms around 380,000 years after the Big Bang, releasing photons and creating the Cosmic Microwave Background. Over billions of years, gravity clumped matter into stars, galaxies, and the cosmic web, while dark matter and dark energy shaped the large-scale structure and accelerated the universe's expansion.
