The Weekly Route: Tyrannical, Entangling, Bursting

The Weekly Route Series showcases Mythic+ strategies that are tailored towards Beginner and Intermediate levels of Mythic+ with the following criteria in mind:

  • Easy to execute - particularly in pick-up-groups (PUGs)
  • Good tradeoffs between skipping the most difficult enemy forces while not requiring overly complicated strategies or “tech” to do so

This week, the affixes are Tyrannical, Entangling, and Bursting.

Tyrannical + Bursting is a more difficult affix combination for 4-10 key levels than it is at higher levels – mobs with lower health pools are more easily defeated, which can lead to an unintentional refreshing of Bursting stacks and, as a result, dangerously high stacks across the team. Conversely, as your key scales, so do the health pools of trash mobs, meaning trash lives longer and mobs are less likely to die accidentally, refreshing Bursting stacks during your damage cooldown windows.

DPS players have complete control over Bursting stacks, and everyone must have a way to monitor the group’s (and their own) stacks. There are an abundance of WeakAuras available to help in tracking Bursting stacks. 1-3 stacks are manageable for most healers; however, a surprise stack of 6-8 will almost certainly cause a death if your group doesn't plan properly.

If you are low on health when a trash pack dies, try to wait a moment or eat to heal yourself before you mount up and run away, especially with Bursting stacks still ticking!

Having a Priest this week will be immensely helpful thanks to their Mass Dispel, particularly if you plan big pulls around the 2 minute cooldown. Mistweaver Monks can also clear high Bursting stacks with Revival every 3 minutes.

Entangling is a relatively low-impact affix per key level; please check out each dungeon below for potentially difficult mechanic + Entangling overlaps.

If you need a refresher on the affixes, be sure to check out our affixes guide!

Difficulty: BEGINNER TO INTERMEDIATE

Tyrannical, Entangling, Bursting

ALGETH’AR ACADEMY

Keep Entangling in mind when positioning for the following boss abilities: Overgrown Ancient’s Germinate, Crawth’s Roving Cyclones, Vexamus’s Arcane Fissure, and Echo of Doragosa’s Power Vacuum.

Be aware of the size of your trash pulls in this dungeon, or you may quickly find yourself with too many Bursting stacks! Tanks, remember and respect healing aggro if you are engaging new trash packs while your healer is still working to heal up the group.

The Arcane Forager and Arcane Ravager mobs on the way to Vexamus can be both unruly and a little scary! Learn how to handle these slippery eels with this quick and easy Raider.IO Snapshot:

THE AZURE VAULT

Keep Entangling in mind when positioning for the following boss abilities: Leymor’s Erupting Fissure, Azureblade’s Ancient Orb, Telash Greywing’s Absolute Zero, and Umbrelskul’s Crackling Vortex.

Interrupt Conjured Lasher’s Mystic Vapors and Arcane Elemental’s Waking Bane so that your healer can save their single-target dispel for Bursting stacks.

BRACKENHIDE HOLLOW

Bloodlust Timings: First pull, on cooldown, Gutshot, and Decatriarch Wratheye

Keep Entangling in mind when positioning for the following notable trash abilities: Stinkbreath’s Violent Whirlwind, Bonebolt Hunter’s Toxic Trap, Bracken Warscourge’s Ragestorm, and Wilted Oak’s Stomp.

Be aware of the size of your trash pulls in this dungeon, or you may quickly find yourself with too many Bursting stacks! Tanks, remember and respect healing aggro if you are engaging new trash packs while your healer is still working to heal up the group.

HALLS OF INFUSION

Bloodlust Timings: First pull, on cooldown, Khajin the Unyielding, and Primal Tsunami after Submerge

Keep Entangling in mind when positioning for the following notable trash abilities: Primalist Geomancer’s Seismic Slam, Flamecaller Aymi’s Molten Subduction, and Squallbringer Cyraz’s Gale Force Charge. Try to move in advance for boss mechanics so Entangling doesn’t catch you off guard in dangerous ground effects like Khajin the Unyielding’s Glacial Surge, Infuser Sariya’s Flash Floods, and Primal Tsunami’s Crashing Tsunami.

Interrupt Nullification Device’s Purifying Blast and focus damage into Glacial Proto Dragon to prevent multiple casts of Deep Chill, allowing your healer to save their single-target dispel for Bursting stacks.

If you find it particularly difficult to dodge the waves through the gauntlet up to Infuser Sariya, try this handy line of sight trick:

NELTHARUS

Keep Entangling in mind when positioning for the following boss abilities: Magmatusk’s Lava Spray, Chargath’s Magma Wave, Forgemaster Gorek’s Blazing Aegis, and Warlord Sargha’s The Dragon’s Kiln.

Interrupt Qalashi Irontorch’s Mote of Combustion, allowing your healer to save their single-target dispel for Bursting stacks. Remember that there will be no available Bursting dispel while Overseer Lahar is engaged due to Imbued Magma on the tank, which needs to be dispelled quickly.

On the way to Chargath, you’ll find several interactable Burning Chains. You can learn how to utilize these chains to speed up your run in our RIO Snapshot below:

When fighting Forgemaster Gorek, positioning for the Blazing Aegis is key, as shown in our RIO Snapshot video:

THE NOKHUD OFFENSIVE

Keep Entangling in mind when positioning for the following boss abilities: Granyth’s Tectonic Stomp, The Raging Tempest’s Electrical Overload, Teera and Maruuk’s Earthsplitter/Frightful Roar, and Balakar Khan’s Iron Spear/Iron Stampede.

Interrupt Nokhud Lancemaster’s Disruptive Shout, Primalist Stormspeaker’s Tempest, Desecrated Ohuna’s Rotting Wind, each mini bosses’ Death Bolt Volley, and stun Nokhud Hornsounder’s Rally the Clan, because these are super scary for your healer even without Bursting to worry about!

If you run with a more coordinated group who prefers to go straight to Balakar Khan and skip the mini bosses, Balara and Batak, invest some time into learning the handy skip detailed in our RIO Snapshot video:

RUBY LIFE POOLS

Keep Entangling in mind when positioning for the following notable trash abilities: Primal Juggernaut’s Crushing Smash, Defier Draghar’s Blazing Rush, and Blazebound Destroyer’s Inferno.

Be aware of the size of your trash pulls in this dungeon, or you may quickly find yourself with too many Bursting stacks! Tanks, remember and respect healing aggro if you are engaging new trash packs while your healer is still working to heal up the group. Stun Infused Whelp’s Primal Chill and interrupt High Channeler Ryvati’s Shock Blast so the healer can save their single-target dispel for Bursting stacks.

Some groups utilize an invisibility potion as a pre-pot before they start the key in order to skip the first Primal Juggernaut. The idea is to do a larger and riskier first pull with Bloodlust. This strategy may become more popular as the season progresses. The downside of skipping this first Primal Juggernaut is that if anyone dies, that player must use another invisibility potion to rejoin the group.

Here is an excellent Kyrakka weakaura to help you visualize the way the Flaming Embers move during the fight. If you are looking at the boss with the room’s entrance behind you, the arrows show you which way the puddles will move with the next cast of Winds of Change. Try it out and let me know what you think!

ULDAMAN

To find Uldaman, take the portal to The Badlands in Valdrakken, shown on the map below:

Keep Entangling in mind when positioning for the following boss abilities: The Lost Dwarves’s Longboat Raid, Bromach’s Thundering Slam, Sentinel Talondras’s Resonating Orb, Emberon’s intermission and Chrono-Lord Deios’s Sand Breath.

Be aware of the size of your trash pulls in this dungeon, or you may quickly find yourself with too many Bursting stacks! Tanks, remember and respect healing aggro if you are engaging new trash packs while your healer is still working to heal up the group. Use personal defensives if Runic Protector’s Earthquake or Ebonstone Golem’s Thunderous Clap go out while you still have Bursting stacks.

After Emberon, you can utilize a wall hug skip to avoid a painful Ebonstone Golem. No special tricks or abilities are required – all you need to do is walk your character into the wall and slowly inch your way towards the other side of the room. This skip is marked with a gold exclamation point (!) on our route. Check out this clip to see the skip in action:

Depending on your count, you may not want to pull the double Infinite Timereaver pack in the room right before the final boss. There are a few ways to skip this pack without needing to use an invisibility potion, which we discuss in this quick R.IO Snapshot:
