The Weekly Route: Tyrannical, Bursting, Skittish, and Reaping
This article and the Routes within have been updated to account for changes to the game and new strategies that have emerged since the last time these affixes were active.
This week’s affixes are Tyrannical, Bursting, Skittish and Reaping.
It’s another fairly good week for pushing keys - it’s no Raging/Volcanic or anything, but it’s certainly better than the average week. The main reason it’s a good week is the fact that Skittish is active from the level 7 set - as Tettles identified in a recent article on WoWHead and discussed in the new Titanforge WoW Podcast, this is one of the only affixes from that set that won’t dramatically slow down the speed at which you can pull the dungeon. Bursting is the primary threat this week - be sure to be careful, especially as Reaping waves spawn, since you’ll be low on health from the Bursting and your DPS may take some extra damage as your tank picks up Skittish threat on the wave.
For each dungeon, there are two different Mythic Dungeon Tools (MDT) routes available – a “Basic” route and an “Expert” route. The Basic routes follow a few restrictions: they don’t feature massive pulls, they don’t require special class abilities like Shroud of Concealment to facilitate skipping mobs, and they don’t require the use of death skips. They also don’t require you to leave anything crowd controlled for too long.
The expert routes, by contrast, often call for advanced pulls and skips. Sometimes, these skips require specific classes like Death Knight, Demon Hunter, or Rogue - but often they can be done by many different group compositions, just in slightly different ways. Every skip in these routes features a full explanation if you mouse over the corresponding number.
If you’re a coordinated team, you should start with the Expert routes and remove pulls/skips that you can’t do. If you need help making any such for your team's strengths and weaknesses, ask me when I'm streaming or get in touch with me using any of the contact info in my RaiderIO Profile!
Click on the COPY MDT IMPORT STRING button and you’ll be able to paste that string into the the "Import" window of your Mythic Dungeon Tools addon and get the route for yourself! Each of these routes contains annotations about how to do each pull and which enemies to crowd control, where to Bloodlust, etc. The annotations and drawings make these routes take a few minutes to Share using MDT’s in-game share function, so consider clearing them before sharing with your group-mates!
This week’s affixes are extremely favorable for Atal’Dazar. Bursting will be at its most dangerous when fighting the Toxic Saurids as players may be low as the pack dies. Depending on the route you use, you may also encounter Reaping waves that are triggered by Saurid packs dying - some may even spawn during a pull if you kill the Saurids unevenly - this, combined with the Bursting, is really the most lethal thing that can happen in this dungeon. The good news is that compared to the challenges of other dungeons, this isn’t even that bad, and it’s predictable and avoidable.
As the metagame has shifted away from Death Knights, our Expert routes no longer plan to take control of an undead enemy and kill it after Yazma to avoid the final Reaping wave, but this strategy is still excellent if you have access to it!

Freehold’s active captains are Raoul and Jolly, which means that the crew you’re joining is the Bilge Rats, and your friendly captain is Eudora. This is wonderful news, as Eudora is the most difficult captain, and on Tyrannical weeks she can easily make short work of any group, particularly if she targets the same player multiple times in a row. With her on your side, you shouldn’t even need to Bloodlust the Council O’ Captains, which allows you to use a route that lusts Skycapp’n Kragg and then joins the crew immediately and fights the Council without having to clear further ahead and backtrack once Bloodlust is available again.

This dungeon is difficult almost entirely due to Tyrannical this week - though Bursting makes a cameo appearance in the Embalming Fluid room. Kings’ Rest is also one of the dungeons where Reaping is at its deadliest, as both of the first two waves can be problematic. Be sure to not pull The Golden Serpent while you’re dealing with the first Reaping wave, and be ready for the second while you’re clearing the gauntlet afterwards - if you’re using the Expert route it’s likely to come as a part of that gauntlet activates, and if you’re using the Basic route it’s guaranteed.
Like in Atal’dazar, our Expert route used to plan for a Death Knight to take control of an undead enemy and kill it after King Dazar to avoid the final Reaping wave. We now no longer assume your group has access to this, but it remains a powerful strategy if you do, and you should rework the Route to use it.

The challenge in Shrine of the Storm this week is primarily Bursting - although Tyrannical is also worth mentioning as the dungeon does have its share of tough bosses, like Lord Stormsong. Most runs in Shrine of the Storm die in the middle of the dungeon, as a wipe in that area can be completely backbreaking since the graveyard remains at the start of the dungeon until you kill Lord Stormsong. Be especially careful here with Bursting to avoid killing your group!
Both of our Routes plan to skip the final Reaping wave by killing a pack of Abyssal Eels after Vol’zith the Whisperer. Our Expert route also plans to skip the penultimate Reaping wave by triggering it during a death skip.

As usual, our Siege of Boralus routes are based off the Horde pathing and will require some modification if you’re Alliance.
It’s easy to kill your group by stacking Bursting quickly and in a staggered fashion at the start of this dungeon, so be careful as you execute the pulls before the First and Second bosses! Once you’ve made it past these, you should be in good shape for the rest of the dungeon - though Skittish during the boss fights with adds is another potential threat you need to be aware of.

Temple’s challenge this week lies entirely in its boss fights - specifically Galvazzt and Adderis & Aspix. Be sure to have Bloodlust available for both of these encounters, as well as all of your group’s cooldowns. If you’re doing this dungeon at a level where these boss fights are doable but challenging, the rest of the dungeon should be fairly straightforward - just be careful of Skittish in the Bazaar of Watchful Eyes if your tank is kiting!
Our Expert route plans to skip the final two Reaping waves - the first by triggering it during a death skip, and the second by triggering it as the final boss encounter finishes.

This dungeon is a great choice for groups that are well coordinated - if you’re capable of executing the Expert route, you should be able to complete this dungeon in a very short period of time! There is, however, ample opportunity for things to go awry. Skittish can be particularly problematic as many pulls feature casters, CC immune enemies, and enemies that charge out of the group - these all refuse to clump up neatly and are therefore difficult for the tank to build threat on. Reaping is also a challenge here because of the large distances that some spirits are forced to traverse (although this problem is solved in our Expert route) and high density of casters.

Underrot Ticks are the biggest Bursting threat in this place - besides those enemies, there are really no specific areas where you’ll find the affixes to be particularly damaging to your group in this dungeon. We’ve therefore decided to skip these enemies in both of our Routes this week. Reaping waves are all manageable and comprised of a favorable combination of enemy types, and the Tyrannical bosses, though not trivial, are among the easier ones across all the dungeons.

Tol Dagor is another superb dungeon to run - especially if your group is ready to make full use of the Heavy Cannons as described in the Expert route. You’ll encounter no real problem from the trash, unless you accidentally kill it too quickly with the Cannons and murder your group with Bursting.
This dungeon does, however, contain some challenging Tyrannical bosses. The Sand Queen, never easy, is especially difficult with Skittish active, as the frequent add spawns can easily lock on to DPS or healers and do significant damage. Minimize this with good use of threat redirection abilities, and be sure to stay closely grouped, as adds spawn near players and you want them to show up near the tank so that they’re within the tank’s AoE effects. Overseer Korgus is also a very difficult boss. You’ll find the DPS and HPS requirements to be tight, even with good positioning and strategy, and there’s no cheat code except showing up with all of your battle rezzes available!

Waycrest Manor is tough due to a mixture of hard Tyrannical bosses and trash where Bursting poses a serious threat. The Heartsbane Triad and Lord and Lady Waycrest are the two bosses most likely to threaten your group, although with Skittish active you’ll also need to be careful when adds spawn while fighting Raal the Gluttonous!
